Koshu Sur Lie 2022

甲州シュールリー 2022

Lumière Winery

ルミエールワイナリー

"Koshu" is a Japanese traditional grape variety. "Sur Lie" is a winemaking method.

This white wine highlights the distinct character of Koshu, fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged on the lees until spring using the "sur lie" method. It enhances Koshu’s signature aromas of Japanese citrus, umami, and freshness while adding depth and richness. Perfectly complements Sashimi, Sushi, and delicate flavors of Japanese cuisine without overpowering them.

THE BREWERY

Lumière Winery

ルミエールワイナリー

https://www.lumiere.jp/

Lumière, one of the oldest wineries in Japan, has faithfully followed the principle since its founding in 1885 that "to make fine wine, we must grow fine grapes.“ The winery continues this tradition on the land, preserving its heritage. In addition to state-of-the-art equipment and an underground cellar, Lumière still uses Japan's first underground stone fermentation tank “Ishigura”, built in 1901 (Japanese Heritage), to craft rich and flavorful wines. Since the 1970s, Lumière has actively participated in international wine competitions, and its flagship wine, “Château Lumière”, has earned numerous awards, gaining global recognition. In the 2000s, began producing sparkling wines made using traditional secondary bottle fermentation with native Japanese grape varieties, and orange wines made from whole-bunch Koshu grapes, continuing to innovate with wines that pair perfectly with Japanese cuisine. Lumière also practices sustainable vineyard management, including "natural grass viticulture" that utilizes wild grasses and "no-till viticulture" to create soil conditions that maximize the natural qualities of the grapes. The winery strives to grow grapes as naturally as possible. In 2021, Lumière won the Platinum Award at the Decanter World Wine Awards, with the barrel-fermented and aged "Hikari Koshu 2018“ that was made from Koshu grapes, grown in their own vineyard by the natural viticulture. Wishing to be true to its name, Lumière ("light" in English, "Hikari" in Japanese), the winery is trying the best to shine the Japanese wine culture to produce exceptional wines.
